Who is HSBC

HSBC is currently using the slogan; “The Worlds Local Bank”. HSBC is a British bank and the second largest banking and financial services group in the world. They have around 7200 offices in 85 countries that range from all regions across Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America. They currently have around 89 million customers and total assets in excess of $2trillion.

HSBC is the abbreviation of HongKong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and it was founded in the British colony of Hong Kong by a Thomas Sutherland in 1865.  They relocated their headquarters to London in 1993 after purchasing Midland Bank. They also have made substantial purchases around the world including large banks in South America.

Like most other banks in the world HSBC has recently been going through some restructuring as they try and elimate costs after a tough period during the financial crisis. This has led to the selling of some branches in Northern America as well as trying to sell its general insurance business.
